El Dorado man to appear in court for alleged threat with handgun

An El Dorado man is scheduled to appear today in 35th Judicial District Court for allegedly threatening a woman with a gun during a visit to a relative’s gravesite.

Oyama A. Williams, 45, of the 300 block of Marrable Hill, faces a felony charge of aggravated assault in connection to the incident.

A woman told police Sunday that she had gone to Lott-Burgy Cemetery, 1803 Short W. Second, to place flowers on the gravesite of her late boyfriend and she recorded the moment in a livestream post online.

She said that when she left the cemetery and headed to her residence nearby, Williams, deceased man’s brother, drove in front of her and blocked her path.

Williams exited his pickup truck and from the bed of the truck, he retrieved the flowers the woman had placed at the gravesite moments earlier, according to a police report.

The victim said Williams then smashed the flowers and the vase into the ground, confronted her about statements had she made during the livestream post and told her “to leave my brother’s gravesite alone.”

The woman told police that Williams walked back to driver’s side door of the truck and retrieved a handgun.

Williams then allegedly cocked the gun and placed it to the woman’s head.

The victim said a woman who was inside the truck with Williams, presumably his wife or another relative, intervened by grabbing Williams and saying, “Baby, you don’t want to do this.”

She said the pair then drove away and she called 911.

Witnesses provided similar statements, telling officers they saw the victim and Williams arguing and Williams threatening her with the gun.

Police said they made contact with Williams at his residence.

Williams told officers that he was also visiting his brother’s gravesite when he and the woman got into an argument, during which she threatened him with a knife.

He noted that he and the woman have been involved in ongoing disputes since his brother died.

The woman reported one such dispute on Sept. 18 when she accused Williams of selling an ATV that belonged to the deceased man without telling her.

On Sunday, Williams said he also called police to report the incident that allegedly occurred at the cemetery.

He told officers that the handgun was still inside his vehicle.

Police said they recovered the gun — a 45-caliber, semi-automatic pistol — from the truck and took Williams into custody.
