El Dorado’s Emma Thomas claimed third in girls’ singles at the 5A South Tennis Tournament on Wednesday in Hot Springs.

The doubles team of Kendal Bonsall and Jessica Carroll will take the fourth seed into next week’s 5A State Tournament.

Thomas lost to eventual champion and top-seed Haley Fauber of Lakeside 6-0, 6-4 in the semifinals. She bounced back to beat Lake Hamilton’s third-seeded Jovana Cetnik 8-2 in the third place match.

Bonsall and Carroll lost to the eventual champion duo of Blount and Cowan of Lakeside 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals. They fell to the Hot Springs tandem of Pace and Guevara 8-3 in the consolation final.

“I’m proud of their performance from the conference tournament,” El Dorado coach Stephanie Thomas said. “There are a few tiny things we are going to have to work on going into the state tournament. We have never seen the other 5A teams play so we are going to have to make sure we are focused on Monday.”

Lakeside will host the state tournament, beginning Monday.
