El Dorado will compete today in the 5A State Boys Golf Tournament, which tees off at 9 a.m. in Glenwood. The Wildcats finished a distant third in the 5A-South Golf Tournament two weeks ago.

Conference champion Hot Springs Lakeside, which shot a blistering 298, will be one of the favorites this week along with Greenwood and Jonesboro. The Rams feature Carson Garner, who shot 68 to win medalist honors at the conference meet.

El Dorado hopes to keep building momentum from the performances of Preston Howard, who earned All-Conference honors after shooting 80 on the same Glenwood Country Course.

Brendan Jones, Baylor Blackburn and Saxon Morgan round out the Wildcat roster. Tournament starts Monday at 9 a.m.

“We are still a young team so if we can improve on our team score from the conference tournament, I will be pleased that the team is learning from experience and improving their course management skills,” said El Dorado coach Chris Ezell. “The mental grind of these state tournaments really test a player’s grit and ability to focus on their own round and not letting a competitor’s success or failures affect them.”

The 2A State Tournament will be held Tuesday in Cabot. The 3A State Tournament will be held Wednesday in Blytheville.
