Smackover's season ends with loss to Clinton

CLINTON - Smackover's run of first-round success in the playoffs came to an end on Friday, as the Bucks fell to Clinton 42-14 in the first round of the 3A playoffs.

The Yellow Jackets (10-1), the No. 2 seed from the 2-3A, won their seventh straight and reached the 10-win plateau for the third straight year, while the Bucks (5-6), the No. 4 seed from the 5-3A, saw a winning streak in the first round of the playoffs dating back to 2012 come to an end.

Clinton jumped out to a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter en route to advancing.

Smackover's lone points in the first half came on a 1-yard run by Dexter Crockett at the 4:48 mark of the second quarter.

Trailing 35-6 at intermission, Smackover scored with 5.8 seconds left in the third quarter on a 73-yard strike from Austin Goodwin to Jackson Cook.

Crockett ran in the two-point conversion to cap the Bucks' scoring.
