Mystic Creek named best course for all in Arkansas

Clubhouse construction to begin soon

Mystic Creek Golf Club recently received the title of ‘No. 1 Best Course You Can Play in Arkansas’ from Golf Week Magazine. Mystic Creek General Manager David Cage said the title applies to those courses open to the public.

“It’s a great designation. We’ve worked hard at it,” said Mystic Creek general manager David Cage.

The 18-hole course stretches over 7,500 yards from the championship tees, with shorter options available for novice or casual players. In addition to the golf course, Mystic Creek has a robust practice facility that includes a putting green, a sand bunker, a driving range and an area to practice one’s short game.

“It’s one of the best conditioned golf courses,” Cage said. “We have an excellent grounds crew. Our superintendent is considered one of the best superintendents in the country.”

Scott Kuhn is the course’s superintendent.

Group and charity outings are welcome at the course, Cage said. Golf clinics and group or private lessons are also available at Mystic Creek.

With membership at about 190, Cage said Mystic Creek is ready to grow. That’s why they are preparing to begin construction on a new clubhouse, the first expansion of the course’s amenities since it was built in 2013.

“We can’t wait to get in the clubhouse … that’s the big change, is moving out of a trailer into a beautiful, spacious clubhouse,” Cage said.

Construction is set to begin in July or August, Cage said; the project is expected to be completed about one year after construction starts. Currently, Mystic Creek staff operates out of a trailer on the grounds, so the clubhouse will be a step up for them and patrons of the course.

“It’s a relatively new golf course. It was built in 2013, so the word is spreading about the golf course,” Cage said.

There is no dining facility at Mystic Creek right now, however, a full service bar and grill will be one of the staples of the new clubhouse, Cage said. Diners will be able to choose whether to eat inside or on the clubhouse’s planned patio, which overlooks the course.

“It’s just in a beautiful location – the pine trees, lakes and creeks,” Cage said. “You’ll have a view from the dining room too, to see the course.”

The clubhouse will also include a locker room and a pro shop. Mystic Creek does already have a well-stocked pro shop, Cage said, but the new one will be more accessible since the clubhouse will be larger than the trailer.

This is the first change the course has undergone since it was built six years ago. The addition of the clubhouse is part of a broader drive by Mystic Creek to increase membership.

“You need a clubhouse to attract new members,” Cage said.

In June, Mystic Creek will have a membership special for those considering joining. Those who join in June will have their initiation fee waived and will not have to pay membership dues until August, meaning two months of free membership.

“We’re already seeing an upturn in inquires and people joining the club for the year, because they’re all excited about the clubhouse being built. We would love to have some more members,” Cage said. “I’ll be able to tell them what plans we do have available.”
