Nothing found in suspicious car at local motel, police say

Nothing was found inside a suspicious car that had reportedly been abandoned at the city’s newest motel for several weeks and drew an alert from a police dog during a search, El Dorado police said.

At 2:30 p.m. Monday, officers received information about a suspicious car that was reported to have been parked at Fairfield Inn and Suites, 1800 N. West Ave, for approximately two months.

Police said the blue, 2003 Toyota Camry bore a Texas license plate and a yellow extended from underneath the hood of the car to the trunk.

The K-9 Unit was summoned to the scene and police dog Pearl, who is trained to detect explosive devices and missing persons, alerted officers to the rear of the vehicle, according to a police report.

Police said the cord was connected to the vehicle battery underneath the hood.

After disconnecting the cord from the battery, officers forced open the trunk and found that the other end of cord was not connected to anything inside the trunk that posed a threat to public safety, police said.

Officers identified the potential owner via the vehicle registration.

Fairfield Inn and Suites opened in January in El Dorado.

Less than four hours later, officers received information about another suspicious vehicle at a residence in the 2200 block of North Madison.

A man told officers that someone has parked a car in his driveway several times within the past week.

He said the silver Pontiac had returned Monday and he when he told the occupant(s) to leave, the vehicle “drove away quickly.”

The man said he was unable to describe the occupant(s) of the car.

Police said the car was registered to a Stephens woman.
