John Morgan wins Parkers Chapel School Board race

School board elections were held on Tuesday with the only uncontested race being between Chad Barnes and John Morgan for a seat on the Parkers Chapel School Board. While every school board had at least one position up for election, none of the other races were contested, which meant they weren’t on the ballot.

Polling was from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Parkers Chapel High School gym.

Barnes joined the PC School Board at the beginning of this school year when he was appointed to fill the position. Morgan had previously served in the position, but stepped down in 2017 when his daughter was hired as a PC teacher.

The final vote count was -32 for Barnes and -58 for Morgan.

In addition to the contested race, Parkers Chapel also had current President Jason Hardy was up for re-election.

With the El Dorado School District, three board members were reinstated —Renee Skinner (current vice-president), Susan Turbeville (current president) and Todd Whatley.

In Junction City, Paul K. Kugler Jr. was reinstated.

The Strong-Huttig School District had Edwin Boswell reinstated and Smackover-Norphlet had Joe Bates and Don Thomas were reinstated. In addition, the position in Smackover-Norphlet currently held by Kim Key will be filled through appointment as nobody ran in that race.

Millages for all five school districts passed. No school district proposed any change to their millage tax.
