Entergy volunteers to offer tax help

Super Tax Day event set for Saturday

Entergy volunteers will be at the El Dorado Conference Center on Saturday offering tax assistance for those low income families who still need to file.

The event is in connection with the Central Arkansas Development Council and El Dorado Connections, which have been offering free tax assistance to low income people since the season started. However, Saturday will be a main event since it’s Super Tax Day.

Entergy partnered with Central Arkansas Development Council to put on the Super Tax Days on Saturdays around the state starting back in February.

Part of the program’s focus is on earned income tax credits, which can be applied to people who are low to moderate income. The credit is available to people who are single or couples and is especially focused on those with kids.

Throughout its service area of Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, Entergy has helped 127,000 customers receive $224 million through the EITC program since 2011. In Arkansas alone, it has helped more than 28,000 people who have received $44.8 million.

“Services provided through Super Tax Day and the VITA program help power lives for customers, who can gain long-term benefits by claiming EITC,” said John Bethel, director of public affairs for Entergy Arkansas. “As customers’ lives improve, communities benefit.”

The VITA program Bethel mentioned stands for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, which is something through the IRS designed to help people get free tax assistance.

The event will be held at the El Dorado Conference Center from 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Saturday. There is a $3 admission fee. Those seeking tax help will need their photo ID, Social Security card, W2 or other tax forms and banking information. People are also encouraged to bring last year’s tax return, if they have it.

Taxes are due to the IRS by April 17.
