MELVERLEAN ROBINSON BIVENS

On September 7, 1951, a beautiful baby girl named Melverlean Robinson was born to the late Floyd and Fannie Benton Robinson. She was eighth of 12 children born to her parents.

For Mae, being a Christian, a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, niece, aunt, matriarch, mentor, counselor, and cousin were all honorable callings in life. The most important calling to Mae was being a soldier in the Kingdom of God. She was often called “Rev. Bivens” because she was always preaching. Everyone that knew her would attest to the love she had for God.

Mae became a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ at an early age. During early adulthood, she united with Mt. Zion #2 Missionary Baptist Church in Urbana, Arkansas under the leadership of Rev. Johnson. She was later united with Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member for over 25 years. She remained faithful until her death. She was a member of the choir and the Women’s Mission Department.

Mae graduated from Gardner High School in Strong, Arkansas. She worked for several companies in the area before her health started failing. She retired early and became a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers; Gill Robinson, Randy Robinson, Robert Robinson, and Russell Robinson; two sisters, Naedell Richardson and Georgetta McCree.

Her memories will be cherished by her husband, Elree Bivens of El Dorado, AR, one daughter, Sherry Spencer-McCrady (Jesse) of El Dorado, AR; three brothers, Arizona (Costella) Robinson, Tice (Mary) Robinson and Bill (Gloria) Robinson, all of El Dorado, Arkansas.; two sisters, Emma Joe Christian of Lewisville, Texas and Maebell Pumphrey (Roy) of Strong, Arkansas; two granddaughters, Malaysia and Marissa Monk of El Dorado, Arkansas; a special sister-in-law, Bertha Bonnet of Strong, Ar and other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
