El Dorado holds off Hot Springs Lakeside

HOT SPRINGS - El Dorado held off a late rally to stay undefeated with a 5-3 win over Hot Springs Lakeside in their 5A South opener Tuesday.

The Lady Wildcats (6-0, 1-0) led 5-0 until the Lady Rams scored three runs in the seventh before the visitors held on.

Grace Hargett fired a three-hitter to pick up the win in the circle. She walked two and struck out 12.

The Lady Wildcats methodically pulled away by scoring two runs in the second and third innings before adding one more in the fifth.

In the second, Hargett walked and scored on an RBI triple by Larran Simmons, who crossed the plate on an error on the relay throw.

Ava Dunn, who was 2-for-3, started the rally in the third with a one-out single. Dunn was then safe at second on Allyson Silmon’s fielder’s choice after beating the shortstop to the bag.

With runners now at first and second, the runners moved up a base each on a dropped third strike before later scoring on a passed ball and a wild pitch.

Silmon drove in El Dorado’s final run with a ground out that scored Grace Murry, who doubled and stole third.

Sydney Sprawls was 1-for-3 for El Dorado, who had five hits in the contest.

El Dorado will play at J.A. Fair on Friday in league play.
