Several area children were recognized for their skills at a recent SouthArk Junior Golf tournament.
SouthArk Junior Golf, developed by Art Noyes to help provide greater access to tournament competition for young golfers in the area, holds weekly instruction programs on Saturdays and monthly tournaments for those ages 8 to 18.
The 2019 SouthArk Junior Golf Tournament series continued Feb. 18 in Smackover at the Pine Hills Country Club. Despite chilly weather at tee time, Noyes said, the golf and competition were great.
Winners of the February tournament are:
Boys, 14 to 18 division – Zac Wake
Girls, 14 to 18 division – Tori Milton
Boys, 11 to 13 division – Landon Black
Boys, 10 & under division – Charlie Hollis
Girls, 10 & under division – Becca Hollis
According to the organization, the goal is provide local young golfers with the opportunity to develop and display their competitive abilities within the best traditions and standards of the game. Noyes said the organization’s tournaments help prepare them for other tournaments across the region, state and nation, while giving them an opportunity to continue learning and growing their skills. Young golfers are also educated on the opportunities for golf and academic scholarship and grants for college.
The next tournament will be held March 19 at the Lions Club.
