“Bon Baguette” authentic French baking class to be held at SAAC

Do you love to bake? Want to become more proficient and wow your family and friends?

Don your apron and join Chef Lilli Ellen and the South Arkansas Arts Center as we present “Bon Baguette,” a French baking class and special event in conjunction with SAAC’s summer musical “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”

During these hands-on classes, Chef Lilli will teach the basics of baguettes, along with all her professional baking tips to ensure your savory success and transform you into a confident bread maker.

The classes will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 29 and 30, from 1 to 4 p.m. each day.

Saturday’s class will focus on baguettes and making pastry cream for Sunday’s class, which will feature Pâte à Choux, a cooked dough used for eclairs and many other gorgeous French pastries. Class participants will make and fill eclairs and take home everything they make to appreciative friends and family when the class concludes.

“I’ve made thousands of baguettes over the years, and sometimes even I still get nervous about baking them. There are so many variables with bread making — different types of flour, different techniques,” Chef Lilli said. “Even the weather can affect the outcome! We will talk about all of it and debunk the bread baking myths and scary things! Being able to bake a good loaf of bread is very liberating. It is one of the oldest foods in history and there are thousands of styles and techniques to make it any way you’d like. Whether its naan or ciabatta, it completes any meal. Baking and breaking bread brings people together.”

“I’m really getting excited about these classes. We wall all learn some classic techniques to incorporate into out baking regimes,” Chef Lilli said. “I want everyone to go home a more skilled and confident baker!”
