Coaches in all sports have a tendency to worry about their teams showing some rust after a layoff.
In the case of the El Dorado Drillers, there was no rust to speak of, as Jacob Eubanks fired a two-hit shutout, and the Drillers banged out 10 hits en route to a 10-0 road win over the Little Rock Junior Vipers in Zone 4 play Wednesday night.
Eubanks needed just 64 pitches to complete his gem. He walked two and struck out four.
The Drillers (11-5, 5-2) scored two runs in the first and three more in the second before breaking the game open with five runs in the third.
Eubanks, one of three players to register a multi-hit game, helped himself by going 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and three RBIs.
Tyler Johnson also drove in three runs while going 2-for-3 with a walk, and Jackson Cook was 2-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored.
Landen Rainwater, Josh Saulsbury, Rhett Richardson and Chase Brumley each had one hit for the Drillers. Rainwater scored twice and stole a base, while Saulsbury joined Eubanks and Johnson with three RBIs in the win while drawing two walks and scoring two runs.
Richardson scored two runs and had a walk, while Brumley had a double and scored a run.
Dakota McGee had a walk for the Drillers.
The El Dorado Oilers were scheduled to play in the nightcap, but their game with the Little Rock Vipers was halted with the game tied 2-2 after four innings of play due to rain. The game will not be made up.
The Oilers were scheduled to host Hope in a doubleheader on Friday, but both of those games were forfeited by the Bobcats. The Oilers will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Sheridan in a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. at Norphlet.
