Moro Bay State Park holds annual fishing tournament

Moro Bay State Park held their 27th annual Perch Jerk Classic fishing tournament last Friday, bringing teams from around the region to compete for cash prizes.

The yearly tournament has divisions for both children and adults, but the types of fish counted are restricted to bream and crappie.

Sy Fife took home a $100 gift card for catching the largest bream in the 12 years old and under division. His bream weighed .93 pounds.

In the adult divisions, one person took home a prize for largest fish caught, while the three teams with the most weight from their fish were rewarded as well.

In the bream division, Stan Callaway won $20 for catching the largest bream, which weighed .75 pounds.

Kevin and Kristi Norris took home $100 for catching 9.7 pounds worth of bream. Mike and Wilson Purdue took $70 and second-place for catching 8.1 pounds worth of bream, with Terry and Judy Savage coming in third with 7.7 pounds worth of bream.

In the crappie division, Peter Poole caught the largest fish, a crappie weighing 1.75 pounds.

Toney and Willis Gilmore took first place in the crappie weight division, with 11.8 pounds. Marty Lee and Alex Wardlaw caught 5.7 pounds worth of crappie for second-place, followed by Wade and Landon Wolfe with 3.5 pounds in third-place.
