CROSSETT - El Dorado Drillers beat Arkansas Pulpwood 8-4 Sunday to win the seventh annual Bastrop-Crossett Jr. Wood Bat championship.
The Drillers, who improved to 6-3 on the season, trailed 4-3 before pushing across five runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Tanner McLelland led off with a one-out single to center. He stole second before Landen Rainwater walked. Both runners scored on a double off the leftfield wall by Trace Shoup. Jake Eubanks followed with a RBI single. Ty Disotell gave El Dorado an 8-4 lead after an inside-the-park home run down the leftfield line.
Rainwater went three, hitless, scoreless innings on the mound. He struck out three and walked two. Shoup pitched three innings, allowing four runs on one hit with three walks and five strikeouts. Disotell pitched one inning, fanning two to earn the save.
Shoup was 3-for-4 at the plate with a homer and three RBI. Disotell was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Jake Eubanks had a hit and two RBI. Tyler Johnson was 2-for-4 with a RBI. Josh Saulsbury was 1-for-2 with a double and McLelland had a hit, two stolen bases and two runs.
The Drillers advanced to the championship game after an 11-3 win over Crossett.
El Dorado scored nine runs in the fourth inning, including an inside-the-park grand slam by Rainwater.
Dakota McGee, Logan Pepper and Jax Todd walked to load the bases before Rainwater sent everybody home with a drive to right centerfield.
Rainwater was 2-for-3 with the homer and four RBI. Eubanks had a hit and two stolen bases. Todd had a hit and scored twice. Saulsbury had a hit and two RBI. Pepper and McGee both got hits and scored runs.
Zander Taylor pitched four innings, allowing a run on no hits with two walks and six strikeouts. McGee pitched a third of an inning, surrendering two runs on a hit and two walks. Jayson Thomas went 2/3 of an inning, giving up one hit.
The game was called after five innings.
The Drillers will play the Jr. American Legion State champion Texarkana Razorbacks Tuesday in Texarkana.
