Count Smackover coach Brian Brown as one of the many people eager to get back to work after the two-week dead period. Brown said the Buckaroos have been active in the off-season and have shown noticeable improvement.

“All are showing up and having good off-seasons,” he said. “My center Trevor Pyron has made great gains in the weight room. We hope to use him at linebacker some this year. Jaqueze Modica and Dettravon Crockett are ready to go and will be used as two-way players when the situation dictates. All three quarterbacks (Dawson Biggers, Austin Goodwin and Landon Wallingsford) are improving with their throwing. We hope to improve every day.”

Smackover will look to take another step forward this week when it competes in the Wildcat 7-on-7 Tournament on Friday. Other teams scheduled to play include El Dorado, Monticello, Crossett, Ouachita Christian, Camden Fairview and Warren.

“I just want to see our guys compete,” said Brown. “Really would like to see our QBs in action.”

Smackover went 10-2 last season.
