Union County standouts receive All-Star nods

Union County will have several representatives at the Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game this summer.

The Arkansas Activities Association released the rosters from fall sports on Wednesday with three standouts from football and cheerleading getting the opportunity to participate.

After winning the 2A state crown last month, Junction City will have two representatives on the East All-Stars with Dhante Gibson and Jack Smith getting selected.

Gibson, a two-way standout who was the MVP of the 2A state finals, rushed for 1,742 yards and 24 touchdowns for the Dragons while averaging nearly eight yards per carry.

Gibson, who verbally committed to Ouachita Baptist earlier this month, had 34 tackles, including six for a loss along with two interceptions on defense.

Smith played on both the offensive and defensive lines for the Dragons while also handling the kicking duties.

Smith finished 9-for-9 on extra points while making a pair of field goals, including one in the state finals against Hazen.

El Dorado will be represented by wide receiver Shun Levingston, who will play on the West All-Stars.

Levingston had 1,050 all-purpose yards with eight touchdowns. He rushed for 356 yards while catching 27 passes for 295 yards along with 390 yards on kickoff returns.

As is the case with football, the East All-Stars will have two cheerleaders on their squad with Junction City’s Taykeetria Rogers and Parkers Chapel’s McKenna Harrell getting selected.

After being a member of Smackover’s squad that captured the 1A-2A-3A state title last month, Brooke Dees will be a member of the West All-Stars.

Rogers and Dees both were tabbed as All-State selections.
