Stingy defense leads Parkers Chapel to victory

PARKERS CHAPEL - A day after holding Harmony Grove to 36 points in a conference win, Parkers Chapel’s defense turned in another stellar showing on the defensive end in a 69-38 win over Hampton Tuesday night in 8-2A play.

After leading 14-11 at the end of the first quarter, the Trojans broke the game open in the second period, outscoring the Bulldogs 21-10 to take a 35-21 lead at halftime.

The Trojans extended their lead to 51-31 after three periods of play en route to victory.

“Defensively, we played one of our best games,” said Parkers Chapel coach Josh Langley. “Hampton has two outstanding scorers, and we were able to hold them to 38 overall.”

Parkers Chapel (11-7, 7-2) used a balanced attack to top the Bulldogs.

Terrell Malone had 21 points to lead the Trojans, while Evan Younger added 15 points and Amari Bell had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Isaac Evans added nine points in the win for the Trojans.

“Offensively, we came out of a two-game rut,” Langley said. “Caleb Jacobs stepped in twice to take charges leading to turnovers. I’m really proud of my guys.

“The last two games, we have been really focused and locked in defensively, and it’s paid off for us.”

Parkers Chapel hosts Lafayette County Friday.
