Dewey takes all-around title in Texas meet

El Dorado gymnast Anabelle Dewey recently competed in the Candy Cane Invitational in Plano, Texas. It was her first optional gymnastics meet. Competing in the JO Level 8 category, Dewey took first place in the vault and was the All-Around champion.

Dewey, competing for Northeast Texas Elite Gymnastics, posted scores of 9.450 in the vault, 8.875 in the uneven bars, 9.275 on the balance beam and 9.275 on the floor exercise.

The fifth grader’s all-around total of 36.8750 edged Kaylah Pearson of Infinite Bounds (Plano), who scored 36.8500 and Cecilia Paredis of United Elite Gymnastics N Cheer (Rockwall, Texas) 36.3500.

This was Dewey’s first meet using her own music and her own routines.

Dewey is currently in Crossville, Tennessee training for the USA Gymnastics National Invite Team.

She will compete in her first HOPES Elite Optional Meet on Feb. 1 and will try for her elite compulsory score again on Jan. 31 at the Buckeye Elite Qualifier in Columbus, Ohio.
