PARKERS CHAPEL - Preston Stivender led a balanced attack with 16 points, as Parkers Chapel overcame a monster night by Lavarious Hughes to top Bearden 57-50 in an 8-2A clash Tuesday night.
Hughes had 40 of the Bears’ 50 points, but the visitors couldn’t hang on to a 41-37 lead going into the final stanza.
“I told the guys at the end of the third to step up and take the game over, and they responded,” said Parkers Chapel coach Josh Langley. “Hat’s off to Bearden. They brought it and gave us all we wanted. We couldn’t stop Hughes.”
Down by four going into the fourth quarter, the Trojans (9-6, 5-1) outscored the Bears 20-7 to seal the victory.
The Trojans got out of the gates quickly by taking a 17-10 lead after one period of play, but the Bears fought back to tie the game at 23-all at halftime.
Zach Williams was also in double figures with 15 points for the Trojans.
Evan Younger had nine points, while Amari Bell added eight points and Terrell Malone finished with seven points in the win.
The Trojans will hit the road for a conference showdown against Woodlawn Friday.
