Go Red luncheon keynote speaker announced

El Dorado Fire Chief Chad Mosby will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Go Red luncheon, hosted by Medical Center of South Arkansas, MCSA Healthy Women Board and sponsored by Murphy-Pitard Jewelers.

The luncheon will be held on Feb. 14 at the El Dorado Conference Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A press release stated that Mosby will be joined on the podium by MCSA CEO Scott Street and other heart disease survivors.

According to Bethany Gaddy, the event will be focused on awareness and education for heart health.

“Heart disease is the number one cause of death in Arkansas and Arkansas is in the top five in the nation for heart disease, diabetes, strokes and heart attacks,” Gaddy said. “These also combine to be the number one cause of death in Union County. We believe that these speakers sharing their stories will help change those numbers.”

The release stated that Mosby is an experienced fire chief with a demonstrated history of working in the public safety industry. He is skilled in vehicle extraction, emergency management, confided space rescue, water rescue and fire management.

Mosby currently serves as the president of the Arkansas Association of Fire Chiefs and was named Fire Chief, El Dorado Fire Department in 2012. He has been with the EFD for over 24 years.

In 2018, Mosby became a heart attack survivor and will share his story at the Go Red luncheon.

There will be a health fair featuring a physician meet and greet, screenings and education from 11 a.m. to noon. There will also be a silent auction beginning at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at noon, when the welcome and presentation will begin.

“Our Healthy Women Board supports the MCSA wellness initiative for 2019,” said Catherine Noyes, MCSA marketing director. “The board members are dedicated to presenting educational and community outreach health events to encourage awareness of healthy life choices and preventive screenings. We encourage attendees to take advantage of this health fair at our Go Red Luncheon and ‘Know Your Numbers:’ cholesterol, blood pressure and BMI. It is an easy first step to good heart health.”

The Go Red luncheon is presented by the members of the Go Red Committee and members of the MCSA Healthy Women Board.
