Several areas in Union County are able to reach 911 by landline again after work on a fiber optic cable line had cut off connection for those areas on Tuesday afternoon.
Sheriff Ricky Roberts said that people in Strong, Urbana and Huttig were not be able to reach 911 beginning around 3 p.m. Tuesday. He listed several area numbers that were unable to reach the emergency line:
- In Strong, those whose phone numbers begin with 797;
- In Huttig, those whose phone numbers begin with 943;
- And in Urbana, those whose phone numbers begin with 962.
Roberts said those who needed to report an emergency were still able to call 911 from a cellphone. They could also call the Sheriff’s Office or the police dispatch line directly. The Union County Sheriff’s Office can be reached at 870-864-1970. Police dispatch can be reached at 870-864-1990.
At around midnight, the line was repaired and residents are now able to call 911 from landlines again.
