School boards approve 2021-2022 budgets

Parkers Chapel, Strong-Huttig, El Dorado and Smackover-Norphlet school boards approved their respective 2021-22 budgets during their monthly meetings this week.

The boards vote annually on proposed budgets of expenditures with tax levy for the fiscal year for the next school year. The budgets include salary funds; instructional, maintenance and operation, dedicate M&O, pupil transportation and other operating expenses; and non-bonded and bonded debt payments.

The Parkers Chapel school board also approved related election documents, as well as the purchase of track equipment up to $56,514.78 through Building Funds.

Strong-Huttig

Strong-Huttig's school board voted to rename the gym the Bubba Medlin Gymnasium to honor Medlin.

Medlin is the owner/CEO of Medlin's Metal Roofing. According to its website, the company was established in 1969. It serves people in south Arkansas and northeast Louisiana.

The school board also approved statement changes in fund balances, bank reconciliation, cafeteria financement statement and check register. It also recognized Dalis Howard, Nickalus Johnson, Opal Farris, Chrishunda Williams, Camiria Cole and Anaiva Ingram as students of the month.

El Dorado

The El Dorado School Board also recognized El Dorado High and Barton Junior High schools as High-Growth Schools based on the 2019 ACT Aspire tests. Both were in the top five schools in the Southwest Region for High Math ACT Aspire Growth.

Hugh Goodwin Elementary ranked in the top 5% in school performance and received an award from the Division of Elementary and Secondary. Katie Sandifer, digital media and marketing manager for the district, said in an email that the recognition came with a reward of $49,300 for the school.

The board also heard the auditor's report, which found the district complied, "in all material respects," according to the report.

The board also recognized student Zariah Miller, classified employee Missy Passmore and teacher Felice Scott from Retta Brown as their people of the month.

Smackover-Norphlet

The Smackover-Norphlet School Board approved a clarification on hiring processes and policies on licensed personnel bus driver drug testing and classified employees drug testing.
