Smackover's winning streak halted by Monticello

SMACKOVER - Smackover saw their three-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday with a 10-2 loss at the hands of Monticello.

Nick Griffin and Grant Jeffers each hit two-run homers for the Billies, who scored two runs in the first, second, third, fourth and sixth innings.

The Bucks (9-16) scored single runs in the second and seventh innings.

Jackson Cook scored on a passed ball in the second, and Noah Wilson drove in a run with a ground out in the seventh for Smackover.

Wilson, the first of five pitchers the Bucks used in the game, took the loss.

Wilson allowed two runs with one being earned in one inning of work. He walked one and struck out two.

Baylor Brumley allowed four runs and three hits in 1 1/3 innings. He walked five and didn’t record any strikeouts.

Chase Brumley followed by working 1 2/3 innings. He allowed two hits and two runs with no walks or strikeouts.

Jacob Eubanks allowed one hit in a scoreless inning of work.

Josh Saulsbury worked the final two innings. He allowed two hits and two runs with three walks and two strikeouts.

Braden Doherty went 2-for-3 to lead the Bucks’ attack at the plate.

Dawson Biggers, Eubanks, Brumley and Saulsbury all had one hit apiece for the Bucks.

Griffin, who has verbally committed to Arkansas, walked five and struck out seven while allowing one unearned run over three hitless innings to pick up the win.

Smackover will play their final game of the regular season on Friday at Centerpoint.

If the Bucks win, they will clinch a spot in next week’s regional tournament.
