Fourth time the charm for proclamation, Easter egg hunt and fun day?

Hopefully, the fourth time will be the charm.

Organizers of the sixth annual Sharion Bailey Whitlock Proclamation and Birthday Weekend and Easter Egg Hunt Extravaganza said the event will go on this weekend, come “rain, sleet or snow.”

Presented by Meet Me at the Court and The Bailey Family, the SBWPBWEEHE has been rescheduled three times this month — twice for inclement weather and once due to unfortunate circumstances for a member of the organizing committee.

Record-setting rainfall this spring has led to the cancellation and rescheduling of several local events in April, including other Easter egg hunts.

The SBWPBWEEHE was originally scheduled for April 6. It was rescheduled for April 12 and 13 and again for April 19 and 20, but rainy weather and a death in the family for one of the organizers, respectively, led to cancellations for those dates.

While thunderstorms that rumbled through the area April 18 had cleared out by the following day, Veronica Bailey, founder and chief executive officer of Meet Me at the Court, said inclement weather was an indirect cause of yet another cancellation.

“The ground was way too soggy and it was too muddy and wet out there,” Bailey said.

Even though Easter has come and gone, Bailey said pleas from area children and their families prompted organizers to shoot for the final weekend of the month.

“I had so many, not just children, but adults, asking me to go ahead and have it. We were going to say that’s it, but they were saying they didn’t mind the mud,” Bailey said with a laugh. “So, we’re going to be out there, they said they’re going to be out there, rain sleet or snow.”

The event will begin at 5 p.m. Friday with a Meet-and-Greet that will include dinner and a balloon release in honor of the Whitlock, Bailey’s sister who passed away in 2012 at the age of 51.

Fish and BBQ plates — including sides, desserts and beverages — will be served.

Bailey has said to-go plates will also be available, noting that Meet Me at the Court youth members will serve guests.

Activities will kick off at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Easter egg hunt, in which participants will search for 1,000 plastic eggs containing candy or notifications to redeem prizes.

Golden eggs will contain notifications for grand prizes, which will include bicycles, electronic devices, gift cards and an assortment of toys.

Some lucky hunters in the 13-18-age category will win a pair of Air Jordan sneakers, Bailey said.

Other age divisions are 6 months-2 years old; 3-6 years old; and 9-12 years old. Children in the youngest age division must be accompanied by an adult, Bailey said.

Easter egg hunt leaders will be assigned to other areas to assist hunters in the older categories. Hunters who find eggs with prize notifications may take the notifications to prize tables in order to claim their winnings.

Family Fun Day activities will immediately follow the Easter egg hunt and will include a bounce house, bingo, motorcycle rides, face-painting, threepoint shootout and a talent show, a new event this year.

Participants in the shootout will compete in two age divisions, 7-11 and 12-18. Winners in each division will receive a trophy.

The talent show will include adult and youth categories.

Trophies, gift cards and cash prizes will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners in each category.

Grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, sides and beverages will be served during the event.

Admission, food and activities are free and open to the public.
