El Dorado girls basketball coach Destinee Rogers announced Tuesday evening she has resigned her position. Rogers has accepted an assistant coaching position with Arkansas State University.

Rogers said today will be her final day at EHS.

“I'm so thankful to Mr. Tucker, Melissa Powell, Phillip Lansdell and Alva Reibe for giving me this opportunity and supporting me the way they have. I will surely miss working for them,” Rogers said.

“There's no doubt in my mind that this program is headed in the right direction. We have laid a solid foundation for what's about to happen at El Dorado. I'm sad to walk away from what's coming because I know how special it is. But, I put my heart and soul into this program. I love these kids to death. They know I'm only a phone call away.”

Rogers led the Lady Wildcats to a 52-28 record in three years, including a run to the 6A state semifinals in 2017. She graduated from Central Arkansas and served on the staff at UCA for four years before taking the job at El Dorado.

“I didn't have any intentions of leaving El Dorado. But, this was just one of those opportunities that fell in my lap. These type of opportunities don't come often,” Rogers said. “When you're trying to advance in your career, this is something I couldn't pass up. I love everything about El Dorado. This is home for me. It's extremely hard for me to walk away from this. I had to make a tough decision to further advance in my career.”
