Trojans win 13th straight behind combined no-hitter

PARKERS CHAPEL - Prior to his start on Friday against McCrory, Parkers Chapel’s Trace Shoup had thrown just four innings the entire season.

Against the Jaguars, the sophomore turned in a superb performance, combining with Tyler Martin on a no-hitter, as the Trojans downed the Jaguars 2-1 at Robert McKinnon Park.

The win is the 13th straight for the Trojans (21-3).

Shoup walked two and struck out seven while allowing one run over five innings of work to pick up the win.

Martin got the save, registering one strikeout in two scoreless innings to seal the victory.

“It was Shoup’s second start of the year, and he needed to get some mound time,” said Parkers Chapel coach Mark Looney. “He gave us five terrific innings, and Tyler came in and did a great job. The defense played really well, and we scored just enough to win.”

The Trojans scored single runs in the first and second innings.

In the opening inning, Thomas Hardy walked with one out and stole second base. Jordan Arrington then followed with a run-scoring single to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

In the second, Tyler Killingsworth walked, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a base hit by Josh Arrington.

McCrory scored their run in the third on an RBI groundout by Colby Lane, but they would get no closer thanks to Shoup and Martin.

The Trojans were held to just four hits with Reid Cates and Martin also collecting singles for the Trojans.

Parkers Chapel will finish the regular season Monday at Crossett.
