A 20-year-old man has been taken into custody and charged in connection with a Wednesday evening homicide.

According to police, officers responded to a shooting incident at 918 Hawthorne St. at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday to find a 22-year-old black man lying on the edge of a wooded area in a vacant lot adjacent to the residence. The man, later identified as Randall Farlin of El Dorado, appeared to have multiple gunshot wounds and was taken by ambulance to the Medical Center of South Arkansas, where he died from his injuries.

Farlin’s body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for a full autopsy.

Qy’Tarius Demon Tyler, 20, was arrested on charges of first degree murder and felony with a firearm in connection with Wednesday’s shooting and could face an additional charge of possession of a firearm by certain persons. Police were searching for Tyler on Wednesday night and, by late Thursday afternoon, had taken him into custody.

Lt. Chris Lutman said Tyler was picked up without incident Thursday afternoon when police responded to a call regarding a suspicious man near a vehicle in the 800 block of East Elm. Lutman said the caller turned out to be a relative of the suspect who did not recognize Tyler at the time.

Lutman said Tyler was being interrogated Thursday afternoon and would be transferred to the Union County Jail afterward. Tyler will have his first court appearance on Monday morning.

Police will travel to the state crime lab next week to further gather evidence, Lutman said.
