Second annual Natural State Tree Climbing Championship returns next month

Competition set for May 4-5 in Little Rock

Competitors from across the nation are invited to the second annual Natural State Tree Climbing Championship in Little Rock on May 4-5.

The competition, hosted by the Arkansas Urban Forestry Council, will feature tree climbers of all skill levels who will compete in a two-day trial of competitions including throwline, open ascent, work climb, aerial rescue and master’s challenge.

Preliminary competitions will take place at MacArthur Park, 601 E. 9th St., Little Rock, starting at 7 a.m. May 4. Finalists will compete in the master’s challenge starting at 9 a.m. May 5.

“Arkansas Urban Forestry Council is proud to be able to bring this competition back for a second year and we hope to inspire our youth to want to explore a future career in this industry,” David Raines, AUFC board member and competition coordinator, said in a news release.

Registration for those wishing to compete is open until Friday and costs $100 per competitor, which must be submitted to http://bit.ly/TREEFEE, along with the registration form available at http://bit.ly/AUFCTREE.

Last year’s winners were Jeremy Williams of Fayetteville and Bryan Brock of Wichita, Kansas.
