With the school year coming to an end, local schools and the El Dorado News-Times are getting ready for graduation and the annual graduation section, publishing in mid-May.

South Arkansas Community College’s graduation will start start the season with a commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. May 10 at the El Dorado Conference Center.

Smackover High School’s graduation is scheduled for 8 p.m. May 13 at Buckaroo Stadium.

Junction City High School and Parkers Chapel High School are both having their ceremonies at 7 p.m. May 16. Junction City’s ceremony will be at the school gym and Parkers Chapel’s ceremony will be at the school’s football field.

Strong High School’s ceremony will be at 7 p.m. May 17 and will take place at the school’s football field.

West Side Christian School’s ceremony will be at 5 p.m. May 19 in the church sanctuary.

El Dorado High School will finish the season of graduation with a ceremony starting at 8 p.m. May 20 at Memorial Stadium.

The News-Times annual graduation section, which will include stories on several local graduates, will publish May 13.

This year, the News-Times Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year finalists will have stories in the graduation section along with the valedictorians for each school district.

The News-Times will not be able to run individual photos of each graduate in this year’s section. However, all Union County schools have received a form for graduates to fill out concerning extracurricular activities, community activities and plans after high school. These forms are due to the News-Times office by April 22. All students who turn in the required form will have their information included in the section.

Questions about forms and story suggestions for the section can be sent to education reporter Michael Shine at [email protected] or 870-862-6611.

For both businesses and parents who want to participate in this keepsake edition, please contact the News-Times office at 870-862-6611 or email Courtney Christie at [email protected] for pricing information. The deadline for all advertising, both retail and private party, is Friday.
