Public meeting slated for Hillsboro gateway improvement plan
A public meeting is set from 4 until 7 p.m. today to provide an update on plans to improve the Hillsboro/U.S. 82 B corridor through El Dorado. The meeting will be held at First Assembly of God, 2225 W. Hillsboro.
Those who attend the meeting — which is being presented by the Arkansas Department of Transportation and engineering and survey firm Crafton Tull Associates — will be able to ask questions and view maps, the layout and conceptual design for proposed improvements in a “come-and-go” setting.
Historic district commission to hear requests
The El Dorado Historic District Commission is expected to hear presentations for two Certificates of Appropriateness during a regular meeting at noon today in the second-floor conference room of City Hall.
One COA pertains to ongoing work to convert a downtown building into a residential space. The building at 313 E. Main most recently housed the offices of Atoka, Inc., an environmental engineering firm.
Two COAs have already been approved for the project, one in December 2017 and the other in February when design plans changed for the southern facade, which faces Cedar Street.
COAs are required for most exterior alterations within the city’s commercial historic district.
On the EHDC agenda today is a COA proposal for several design elements on the northern facade of the building.
Commissioners will also hear a COA request for new signage on the Griffin Music Hall, 101 E. Locust.
The sign will bear the name of “First Financial Bank” and include a new music logo to recognize the bank’s contributions to the development of the Murphy Arts District, where the music hall is located.
