BEARDEN - Caleb Jacobs accounted for over 400 yards of total offense, but it wasn’t enough, as Parkers Chapel fell at Bearden 28-23 Friday in an 8-2A clash.

The Trojans (1-4, 0-2) held a 23-22 lead in the fourth quarter only to see the Bears (2-3, 1-1) take the lead right back.

Parkers Chapel marched to Bearden’s 5 with a minute to play in the game, but the Trojans were stopped on fourth-and-three and the Bears held on.

“The kids fought hard, but they made the plays and we didn’t,” said Parkers Chapel coach Jacob Midyett.

Parkers Chapel opened the scoring with Jacobs throwing the first of three touchdown passes in the game, connecting with Ryan Simpson on a 19-yard strike.

After Bearden answered and took the lead with a successful two-point conversion, the Trojans reclaimed the lead with Jacobs firing a 30-yard touchdown pass to Amari Bell to make it 13-8.

The Trojans led by the same score at intermission, but the second half would be a seesaw affair.

The Bears struck first to take a 14-13 lead, but the Trojans countered with Preston Stivender drilling a 30-yard field goal to put the Trojans back ahead.

After Bearden answered with a score, Jacobs connected with Tyler Killingsworth on a 62-yard touchdown pass to give the Trojans their aforementioned one-point lead in the fourth quarter before Bearden rallied and held off the Trojans on their final drive.

Jacobs went 19-of-33 passing for 326 yards with three scores and two interceptions for the Trojans. He also had 94 yards on the ground to finish with 420 yards of total offense.

In addition to his touchdown catch, Simpson had 65 yards rushing.

Parkers Chapel will host Fordyce next Friday.
