An automobile accident on U.S. Highway 167 left two injured and one dead Monday morning.

According to an Arkansas State Police report, Shacazza N. Gray, 30, and Sherrick M. Gibson, 41, both of Junction City, were heading south on Highway 167 South, when another driver, Rebecca Dison, 57, of Spearsville, Louisiana, failed to yield the right-of-way while crossing the highway. Their vehicle then left the road and went into a grove of trees.

The passenger, Gibson, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Gray and Dison were both injured and taken to the Medical Center of South Arkansas for treatment.

According to the police report, road conditions were dry at the time of the accident; however, the report also indicates that it was foggy when the accident occurred, which was shortly after 6 a.m. Monday.

“It was the heaviest I’ve seen in a long time,” Lt. Jonathan Bailey of the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the accident’s responding officer, said regarding the fog Monday morning.

He said Dison stopped at the stop sign that connects Southfield Cutoff Road with Highway 167 and looked both ways before entering the intersection. However, due to the fog, she was unable to see Gray and Gibson’s vehicle coming, resulting in their collision. Bailey said the fog was the only contributing factor the UCSO could report in the accident at this time.
