Power outages are affecting many area residents after a substation went down Friday afternoon.

Entergy’s customer service representative Chris Wasson said the El Dorado west substation is down, and the outage is affecting a large majority of the west side of El Dorado. Based on Entergy’s outage map online, it appears to be affecting Smackover as well.

Wasson said the outage was caused by a tree that fell on a line that feeds the substation, causing internal damage to the substation.

At 5:30 p.m., he said power would be restored within the hour to the majority of customers affected by the outage. However, customers residing on Forrest Lane will have to wait another four to five hours, he said, as Entergy is repairing damage from the fallen tree.
