JOHNNIE B. BURNS

Johnnie Braddock Burns, 92, died Friday December 7, 2018 in New Orleans following a lengthy illness. Born October 19, 1926 in El Dorado, she was the daughter of John Aloysious Braddock and Katie Beard Braddock.

Johnnie was a lifelong resident of El Dorado. She was a member of the 1944 graduating class at Eldorado High School. She held a bachelor’s degree from Delta State Teachers College, and a master’s degree in education from Florida State University. She was a member of St Mary’s Episcopal Church since 1957. She was active in the church through the years in a wide range of capacities. She was a teacher in the El Dorado school system for many years before retiring in 1985. She was a member of the teacher’s organization Delta Kappa Gamma. She served in numerous ways in that organization for more than 50 years, including as president of the local chapter. For her service she was awarded the Order of the Rose in 2013.

Johnnie was preceded in death by her husband Clifford C. Burns, Jr. in 1992; and by her sister Mary Ann Holt, also a resident of El Dorado, in 2013. She is survived by her son Dr. C. Brad Burns (Dorothy) of New Orleans; and by two grandsons Clifford E. Burns of Las Vegas and Andrew B. Burns of New Orleans.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 15 at 10:30 AM at St Mary’s Episcopal Church. Internment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. There will be visitation at Young’s Funeral Home on Saturday prior to the funeral service. Memorials may be made to St Mary’s Episcopal Church, 512 Champagnolle Road, El Dorado, AR 71730.
