Walter E. Hussman, president and CEO of WEHCO Media, Inc., will speak at the local Rotary Club at noon Monday at the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce.
Hussman is the publisher of the News-Times, as well as the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the Camden News and the Magnolia Banner-News, among others. He is expected to give an overview of plans for area newspapers as the company looks to digital distribution when he visits the area Monday.
Hussman is a third-generation newspaperman, born in Texarkana and raised in Camden. His father, Walter E. Hussman Sr., was publisher of the Camden News from 1949 until 1981, and his grandfather, Clyde Palmer, was publisher of the Texarkana Gazette from 1909 until 1957.
Hussman was named Editor & Publisher Magazine’s 2008 Publisher of the Year. WEHCO Media, which bears his initials, publishes 10 daily and nine weekly newspapers in three states, plus eight magazines, and also operates a number of cable television systems under its video division, according to a June report from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
