Parkers Chapel picks up road victory; Smackover swept

FORDYCE - After a tough loss on the road Tuesday, Parkers Chapel bounced back with a key road win Friday night in 8-2A play.

Zach Williams had 17 points, and Amari Bell had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds, as the Trojans knocked off Fordyce 51-41.

The Trojans (4-4, 2-1) pulled away methodically from the Redbugs, leading 14-13 after one period of play and 23-19 at intermission before taking a 35-29 advantage into the fourth quarter.

“Outside of the first quarter, I thought we played really well defensively,” said Parkers Chapel coach Josh Langley. “We made an adjustment after the first quarter and allowed only five points in the second quarter.”

Terrell Malone added eight points with six points coming at the free-throw line.

In the second half, the Trojans were a perfect 12-of-12 from the charity stripe.

“I thought Fordyce did a really good job of switching their defenses up to try and keep us off-balance,” Langley said. “Offensively, we left a lot of points out there, and that will be our focus next week as we have four days off before we play our next game. We need to finish plays, and I thought we did a much better job, especially at the free-throw line in the second half.”

Isaac Evans added seven points for the Trojans, and Langley was pleased to pick up a road win that could loom large as the season goes on.

“Fordyce is going to make some noise in this conference, and it was very important for us to handle business tonight,” Langley said. “We are still getting solid minutes from our bench, which is very important to our success moving forward.”
