Flash flood watch issued for Union County

Watch is in effect from noon today through late Saturday afternoon

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for much of the region, including Union County, effective from noon today through late Saturday afternoon.

According to the weather service, widespread rain, which may be heavy at times, is expected throughout Friday and Saturday as a strong low pressure system approaches the area.

The rainfall is expected to total 3 to 5 inches, though isolated higher amounts are possible.

Any time there is a possibility of flash flooding, area residents should avoid any low-lying and poor drainage areas, if possible.

The weather service issued the watch, which means that conditions could lead to flash flooding.

In that case, the weather service will issue a flash flood warning.
