THURSDAY

Bankers Blood Drive planned

forThursday

El Dorado Bankers will have a blood drive from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. today at the South Arkansas Arts Center, 110 E. Fifth St., El Dorado.

Banks that will be participating in the event include BancorpSouth, First Financial Bank, Simmons Bank, Smackover State Bank and Southern Bancorp.

Pizza, spudnuts and drinks will be provided to donors and door prizes will be given away every hour including tickets to the South Arkansas Arts Center production of “The Addams Family.” A grand prize of a $500 Walmart gift card from the banks, will be given away at the end of the day.

The event will be conducted by the American Red Cross and those planning to donate are reminded to have plenty to eat and drink before giving blood.

On the day of the event, donors will complete the health history on-line with the RAPID PASS app at redcrossblood.org/rapidpass. All donations will benefit local patients in need and photo identification is required to donate.

Caregiver workshop

The Schmieding Home Caregiver Training Program of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will hold a free family caregiver workshop on Feb. 23 for those who would like to learn about caring for an adult with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

The workshop will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the South Arkansas Center on Aging located at 106 West Main, Suite 310 in El Dorado. For more information or to register, please call 870-881-8969, or visit www.uamscaregiving.org.

It will present an overview of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and provide caregiving tips that maintain respect, dignity and quality of life for the person living with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. Information will also be presented on nutrition, behavior, communication techniques and activities.

The 2017 Southwest Arkansas Business & Enterprise Development Conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, March 10, at the El Dorado Conference Center. The event is hosted by the Arkansas Human Development Corporation, South Arkansas Community College, Southern Arkansas University - Magnolia, Small Business and Technology Development Center, Southern Bancorp and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
