Charles Tanner

Charles Gay Tanner, 83, of El Dorado, passed away on Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, at John R. Williamson Hospice House.

Born on Oct. 7, 1952, in Haynesville, La.; he was the son of Melton “Jake” Reuben Tanner and Elizabeth Purvis Tanner. Charles graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University and worked for 35 years with Mobil Oil Corporation in South Louisiana. He was a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Charles loved fishing, camping and playing with his grand kids.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joan McCrary Tanner and grandson, Nicholas Bellew.

Survivors are his wife, Monteene Slaughter Knighten Tanner, a son, Ronald Tanner (Judy) of Greer S.C.; a stepson, Chris Knighten (Jann) of Fayetteville; daughters, Donna Bellew (Bryan) of Plano, Texas, and Linda Rainwater (Phillip) of El Dorado; a stepdaughter, Becky Renshaw of Garland, Texas. Along with nine grandchildren, Greg Bellew, Vanessa Bellew, Doug Tanner (Beth), Tara Ruehling (Steven), Kevin Swilley, Yvette Swilley, Rane Renshaw, Chandler Renshaw and eight great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Immanuel Baptist Church in El Dorado with the Rev. Ron Sanders officiating.

Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. at Youngs Funeral Directors.
