Arkansas pulls out of Puerto Rico Classic

Cinderella slipper fits for Downum

In sports, it’s called a Cinderella Story when an unlikely athlete comes out of nowhere to achieve things few thought were possible. The glass slipper fit Alexis Downum this past fall during the high school tennis season. Downum, a senior, was the No. 2 singles player at El Dorado. After missing a chunk of the season, she returned to the court after her second surgery and ended up earning All-State honors for the Lady Wildcats. Now, months later, the pride in what she accomplished hasn’t grown old.

Clark finishes in third place at heptathlon

CABOT - El Dorado’s Breya Clark finished third in the Arkansas Heptathlon Thursday. The junior scored 4,087 points in the two-day competition to finish behind Maumelle’s Claire Luallen (4,164) and Camden Fairview’s Tai’sheka Porchia (4,125). Sophomore LaDiamond Maker finished 17th in her first heptathlon, which featured 81 competitors.

Game time is set for 4 p.m.

Smackover senior Lexi Gilbert admitted she wasn’t sure if her dream of playing softball in college was realistic. But, sometimes dreams really do come true. Gilbert announced she will continue her softball career at North Arkansas College, a junior college located in Harrison.

El Dorado’s Breya Clark finished 12th as a last-minute entry into the Arkansas High School Heptathlon last year. With a year to prepare, the junior believes she can do even better this year.
