Candy for Hope Landing

Candy drive: Members of the El Dorado Service League took donations including money and candy for Hope Landing Wednesday at the central fire station. The league accepted donations of candy or money to buy candy for the children at Hope Landing as part of their HOPE-0-ween fundraiser.

Panel to compare zoning codes

The El Dorado Planning and Zoning Commission agreed Tuesday to research zoning codes in other cities in an ongoing effort to clarify a city ordinance that restricts parking on front lawns on certain streets in El Dorado.

Justin Moore prepares for MusicFest

Justin Moore says he remembers playing in El Dorado four years ago. “I don’t know why I remember this, but it was pouring rain,” Moore said in a phone interview, referring to when he played MusicFest in 2014. “The fans were still into it and we went on and played a whole set. It was a lot of fun.”

State treasurer discusses financial literacy

Talking money: Dennis Milligan, state treasurer, visited Parkers Chapel fourth grade students Tuesday afternoon as part of starting their unit of AR Finance AR Future program. The program, which is done online and administered through the treasurer’s office, is focused on teaching students about fiscal responsiblity and the importance of saving money. The Vault - Understanding Money course provides students with interactive lessons and situations. It’s geared toward fourth through sixth grade students and teaching about financial literacy early. Milligan started the program shortly after entering office in 2015 and has impacted approximately 30,000 students, Milligan said. The program is available to schools at no cost.

Arkansas drops 4,100 more from Medicaid over work rule

LITTLE ROCK (AP) — Arkansas has nearly doubled the number of people removed from its expanded Medicaid program for not meeting a new work requirement, state officials said Monday, with more than 4,100 losing their health insurance under the restriction that's the focus of a federal lawsuit.

Police continue search for homicide suspect

Ira Baker considered armed and dangerous

El Dorado police are continuing the search for a suspect wanted in connection with an Oct. 7 homicide. Police issued a most wanted notice last week for Ira L. Baker, Jr., 25, and are continuing to search the area and ask local residents for help in finding him.
