Honoring the fallen/missing: El Dorado Eight & Forty Salon 940 Ladies’ Veterans Organization members Diana Scritchfield, left, and Pat Ritchie, right, place a marker over an empty folding chair Thursday during a Prisoners of War (POW)/Missing in Action (MIA) ceremony in front of the Union County Courthouse. The ceremony, which the organization hopes to make an annual event, served to honor those service members in all branches of the military who were held as prisoners of war or went missing in action.

Arkansas resumes issuing birth certificates after brief halt

LITTLE ROCK (AP) — Arkansas' governor ordered health officials on Friday to treat married lesbian and heterosexual couples the same when listing the parents on a birth certificate, in an effort to comply with a June U.S. Supreme Court ruling that the state's birth certificate law was discriminatory.

VFW Post to host Christmas dinner Sunday The VFW Post 2413 will have their annual Christmas dinner at 1 p.m. Sunday at the home post on Industrial Road. All members and guests are welcome to attend. OWLS to make Christmas crafts at Tuesday meeting The South Arkansas Center on Aging, a program of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, in partnership with HealthWorks Fitness Center, the Medical Center of South Arkansas and South Arkansas Community College, will present OWLS (Older Wiser Livelier Seniors) at 2 p.m. Tuesday at HealthWorks. The program will include a Christmas craft - bird feeder ornaments with Laura Rogers. This program is free to seniors and they do not have to be a member of HealthWorks to attend.
