Candy Carnival

Carnival of fun: (Main) Bridget Perry comforts 2-month-old Brantley while attending the annual Candy Carnival at Bible Baptist Church on Saturday. The event included carnival booths, a 28-foot mega-slide, a variety of bounce houses, horse rides, hayrides, obstacle course, dunk tank and face painting. Cotton candy, hot dogs along with free beverages were provided for every child. Left, Caxton Johnston, 4, gets his face painted. Below, Raffe Vartenian, 11, enjoys a swing.

In those first bright days of Elvis

The written word: Three-time novelist and El Dorado native Josephine Rascoe Keenan discusses her book, “In Those Glory Days of Elvis” at Barton Public Library on Saturday. The book is the latest installment of her trilogy that also includes, “In Those First Bright Days of Elvis” and “In Those Dazzling Days of Elvis”. The event included a book signing along with a lecture providing insight into her inspiration for the series. Rascoe was in town celebrating her 60th class reunion.

MusicFest kicks off this week

The 31st annual MusicFest will kick off Thursday with Sheila E performing at the Murphy Arts District Amphitheater at 6:30 p.m. Doors are set to open at 5:30 p.m.
