The Arkansas Athletic Association has announced that cheerleading will now be considered a sport, and according to El Dorado High School cheer coach Vicky DeLone, how that will affect the state’s cheerleading teams remains to be seen.

Few things will change for cheerleaders, said DeLone, who has been coaching the EHS cheerleaders for 19 years.

“Basically, cheerleading is not changing. It’s just considered a sport now where it used to be considered an activity,” said DeLone.
