Felsenthal Mayor Lester Lancaster was probably the only city leader in Arkansas Friday to conduct official business from inside a jon boat. The direct line to city hall rang to his mobile phone as he rowed down K Avenue surveying flood waters.

“Every street in town is flooded right now,” Lancaster said. “Everything just seems to be real quiet. We’re holding on.”

Lancaster said that most of Felsenthal’s 150 or so residents are riding out the flood at home, using pumps to help keep out water from the Ouachita River.
