![]() Union County Sheriff’s Deputies and emergency medical personnel blockade an entrance to the Norphlet Chemical plant Thursday afternoon. NORPHLET — Union County Judge Bobby Edmonds declared an emergency late Thursday afternoon at Norphlet Chemical after an inspection conducted by Homeland Security officials found flaws in hydrogen chloride storage tanks. The plant currently has 30,000 gallons of HC, an ingredient found in automobile refrigerant, on site, Edmonds said.
