A man who is accused of brutally beating his girlfriend with shoes made his first appearance Wednesday in Union County District Court.

Bobby L. Ford, 55, of 1101 E. Barnes, was arrested Tuesday for second-degree battery after El Dorado police responded to a report of a disturbance at his residence and found his girlfriend bloody, with parts of her hair and scalp gone.

Police were called to the residence at 2:17 a.m., and upon arrival, a resident said Ford and his girlfriend were fighting in the bathroom.
