A reception to officially recognize El Dorado’s designation as a Preserve America Community will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at the John Newton House, 510 N. Jackson.

Members of the El Dorado Historic District Commission discussed the event during a regular meeting Thursday.

U.S. Congressman Mike Ross is expected to attend the reception and officially announce that El Dorado has become part of a White House initiative, which is endorsed by first lady Laura Bush, that encourages and supports local community efforts to preserve and enjoy priceless and natural heritage.
