The West Nile virus has been reported in the Natural State for the third year in a row, according to the Arkansas Department of Health, with officials cautioning that although only two cases in Central Arkansas have been confirmed this year, “the viruses are present throughout the state.”

The ADH has also confirmed one case of St. Louis Encephalitis, which, like the West Nile virus, is a mosquito-borne illness.

Susan Blake, director of the Union County Health Unit, said none of the confirmed cases are in or near Union County.
